that Raptors can’t swim?
Someone had a bad weekend. This happened at an ice rallyx event, not the one I was racing at, that was going on in Wisconsin yesterday. Story is some local jabroni came out while the event was going on and was drifting around on the ice near the course. Since he wasn’t part of the event, he didn’t go to the drivers meeting, where they explained that a certain group of cones indicated thin ice and to avoid that area. So when he drove over said area...
It sucks for him, but kinda serves him right for being dumb enough to drive on ice without knowing the thickness. Especially in a big truck. As they say, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I much prefer the photo where you can see the cones that (supposedly) marked not to go over there.

Yeah, I should’ve posted both. The one I used was just closer.

Why didn’t they put a snorkel on that thing? It has to be dangerously close to inhaling some water.

It can’t just drive out from there? I mean the hoods not even under.

It looks like it could still be salvageable if they could get it out without it going any deeper.

Well they’d probably have to keep moving for a bit to find thick enough ice to support it. It also depends on how deep the ice goes down; the tires need something to find purchase on, and if the ice doesn’t go that deep down they’d just be spinning on water and the ground underneath.

One of my favorite expressions, and it definitely holds true here.

Dubay. The truck fell through at Sinissippi.
Course was fun, ice was decent with some hard packed snow on top. So non-studded cars, like me, still had some grip. Would’ve been better with some fresh powder though.

Yep. Their paddock always gets pretty watery too.
I guess that extra ~100 miles further north makes a big difference.

After the first time I went, they called off the next few winters worth of races due to thin or slushy ice conditions. It sucked. My kids had a lot of fun out on the ice.
